Kvyat future remains uncertain despite finding peace with AlphaTauri
Russian is now happier with the AT01
Daniil Kvyat has conceded to now being more at peace with his AlphaTauri but remains in the dark as to whether he will be with the team in 2021.
Kvyat had struggled for most of the season until finally conjuring his best result for 15 months with his fourth-place finish in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola.
A number of recent updates to the AT01 propelled the car to being the third quickest in the field across the weekend behind Mercedes and Red Bull and resulting in a happier Kvyat.
While declining to go into exact detail as to the changes other than to state they are "technical things", Kvyat said: "I wasn't feeling entirely at peace with the car.
"But the team was helpful and we made changes at the front, just for myself, to try to get a different feeling, a feeling that I like from the car.
"Sometimes, you jump in the car and it is there, sometimes it isn't there and you have to work a bit, so we worked a bit towards what I wanted from the car.
"The team was helpful so things were better, definitely better. Not ideal, but improving since around Spa. It is not simple to change things during the year but you always work if you don't feel happy in the car."
While the freak combination of conditions across the Turkish GP weekend worked against Kvyat and AlphaTauri as even team-mate Pierre Gasly struggled, the speculation is the Russian's good result at Imola and his greater comfort with the car are unlikely to save his F1 seat.
Although Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda is understood to be in the frame to partner Gasly next season, Kvyat is refusing to go down without a fight.
"I think it is never really out of your hands," said Kvyat. "I think it is important with these results to keep pushing no matter what.
"The better you do, the better the chances are for 2021 and for 2022. So it is always best to race like at Imola whenever you can.
"I always try my best. That is the aim, to try and do as many good races as this [Imola] and things will be good anyway. Some things are in my control like the driving and some things are out of my control."
