F1 teams given just one 90-minute practice session at Imola

Formula 1 will face a unique timetable for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix at Imola as just one 90-minute practice session will be run.

When F1 recently announced plans for additional races, F1's return to a track that last held a grand prix in 2006 highlighted the fact the event at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari would be staged over two days.

This has been done to allow the teams the additional time required to make the 1,500-mile journey from Portimao in the Algarve that will be hosting the Portuguese Grand Prix the weekend previously.

The sole practice session will take place at 10am local time on Saturday, October 31, with qualifying to follow at 2pm.

As for the race on November 1, given the shortened daylight hours at that time of year, this will take place at 1.10pm local time, two hours earlier than is normally the case for European races.

Speaking over the weekend of the British Grand Prix, McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl suggested the new programme would be difficult.

"Obviously, a new challenge for all of us," said Seidl. "Of course, the condensed programme is an additional challenge, but it is the same challenge for all and we are actually looking forward to that challenge to see who can cope with it best.”
