Leclerc refuses to point finger of blame for Ferrari failings
Scuderia as a whole not done a good enough job
Charles Leclerc is refusing to point a finger of blame at anyone inside Ferrari for the current deficiencies of the ailing Formula 1 team.
Chairman John Elkann this week made clear the Scuderia would not be competitive again until 2022, effectively writing off the remainder of this season and next year.
Leclerc maintains that is not the fault of an individual or department, insisting all within Ferrari are united in the quest to again return to the front in F1.
“I don’t think it would be right to point the finger at one particular thing," said Leclerc.
"I think just as a team we haven’t done a great job this year and we need to try and catch back that performance by working in the best way possible, which is what we are doing.
“Everyone is trying to push as much as possible at the factory, and as drivers, Sebastian [Vettel[ and I are trying to give the best feedback possible to get back to where we want to be.
“To point the finger at one thing particularly I don’t feel is the right way, but we are all definitely trying to sort out these issues.”
Heading to Silverstone for this weekend's British Grand Prix and next weekend's 70th Anniversary race, Ferrari confessed it expected to suffer a bruising couple of races at the power-sensitive circuit.
Friday practice proved a nightmare for Vettel, in particular, as he sat out FP1 - bar two installation laps - due to a minor fault with the intercooler system, while in FP2 his SF1000 required a pedal change.
Addressing the bigger picture at Ferrari, Vettel said: “I think the proof [of the problems] we saw already in the first three races and we will continue to see on the track. There’s no way to hide that and it takes time to come back out of this."
