Mercedes, sponsor deals boost Williams

Williams are closing in on securing a new deal with Mercedes to remain as their engine supplier, with a further boost coming in a renewed agreement with title sponsor Rokit.

Although 2019 has been a season to forget thus far for Williams, they have retained the faith from their headline partner, confirming a new deal with Rokit that will run between three and five years.

Williams are the only team yet to score a point this season, having delivered the FW42 late to pre-season.

Deputy team principal Claire Williams said: "Rokit joined the team at a challenging time and it means a great deal to us that they believe in our vision and are committed to helping us achieve it."

Recent reports had suggested that Williams may change engine supplier from Mercedes, whose power units they have used since 2014, to Renault, who powered the team's title successes in the 1990s.

"I saw the speculation," Williams said. "We aren't talking to Renault. We are talking to Mercedes, as you probably expect, and those conversations are going well.

"We hope to be able to conclude a new partnership with them going into 2021. They have been a fantastic partner of ours.

"They have been very, very supportive and everybody knows that Toto [Wolff] started his F1 career at Williams, and as such we have a great relationship with him. I would like that relationship to continue.

"We have always had a great history with Renault but our future is with Mercedes."
