Result of Red Bull investigation on Gasly's car revealed
Red Bull motorsport advisor Dr Helmut Marko has revealed that an investigation into Pierre Gasly's car following his disappointing Austrian Grand Prix has uncovered no gremlins in the RB15, putting more pressure on the Frenchman's upcoming performances.
After Gasly's underwhelming start to life at Red Bull, which has seen him fall way off the standards set by team-mate Max Verstappen, the team sought answers and disassembled his car in its entirety in an attempt to find an issue that may be causing his struggles.
Gasly was not in entirely matching machinery to Verstappen as the Dutchman won in Austria, lapping his team-mate in the process, but the Frenchman will start on a level playing field at Silverstone this week.
Marko told motorsport-total.com of the growing scrutiny on Gasly's contributions to Red Bull: "Of course I could talk myself out of it, because we have almost the same number of points as last year.
"[There were] many defects on the engine side [and] the mistakes of Max.
"I do not want to talk myself out of it, that's not satisfactory. Gasly is certainly not where he could be.
"There is a little apology for Austria. We broke all the front wings in the practice sessions, so he did not ride the same front wing as Max, which helped a lot, but of course it does not explain the gap he had."
Marko added: "[The car] has to deliver now, but also Gasly does. He always looks for the mistake in the car, in the chassis. We have looked through this. There was nothing.
"The line is now to support him, as far as possible. He gets Max's set-up from the start, because he's the more experienced driver and has the more experienced engineering team.
"He can mess around with it for it but he cannot seriously go away from it - he was experimenting with that and jumped from one extreme to the other."
