VIDEO: Alonso in huge crash in Indy test
Fernando Alonso was involved in a huge crash during a testing event for the Indianapolis 500 at the Brickyard on Wednesday, demolishing his #66 McLaren car in the process. Alonso emerged unscathed from the high-speed incident in Indianapolis and returned to the track in a back-up car.
Alonso is going for victory in Indy to secure the 'Triple Crown' – a stated aim in recent years after falling out of title contention in Formula 1.
With two Monaco GP wins and success in the Le Mans 24 Hours under his belt, Alonso just needs a win at IMS in 10 days to match Graham Hill's unique feat, although his preparations hit a snag on Wednesday as he suffered a big shunt.
"It was just pure understeer on the car," Alonso said. "Even if I lifted the throttle on the entry to the corner it was not enough.
"I lost completely the front aero. The wall came too close and too quickly. Unfortunately, it happened today, and we will lose a little bit of running time again. I'm sorry for the team.
"We'll learn and come back stronger."

Alonso was not the only driver involved in a big wreck on Wednesday.
Felix Rosenqvist, driving in IndyCar this year for Chip Ganassi Racing also ploughed into the barriers, and only the quick reactions of Will Power prevented a bigger accident from happening.
