Canadian Grand Prix: Starting Grid
Sebastian Vettel will begin the Canadian Grand Prix on pole for the fourth time as he looks to cut into Lewis Hamilton's lead at the top of the Formula 1 drivers' standings. Vettel has not tasted victory since his back-to-back victories in the opening two rounds of 2018.
Valtteri Bottas lines up alongside Vettel on the front row after one of Saturday's most eye-catching performances, the Mercedes man outqualifying team-mate Lewis Hamilton.
Only Michael Schumacher has a better record at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve than six-time pole-sitter and winner Hamilton, but the reigning champion starts fourth, behind the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.
The Dutchman has been in inspired form, providing the perfect response to a dismal Monaco Grand Prix and he will hope to make gains off the line after Red Bull opted to start him and Daniel Ricciardo on the grippiest hypersoft tyres.
The Ferraris and Mercedes are on the more durable ultrasofts from the start.
Vettel may well hope Kimi Raikkonen makes an electric start to muscle ahead of Hamilton, although first-lap fun is not in the Finn's nature.
Renault and Force India round off the top 10 at the head of what looks likely to be another fraught midfield battle on a track that will look to promote overtaking with three DRS zones.
Fernando Alonso is making his 300th grand prix entry this weekend and will start 14th. If he sees the chequered flag, he will move past Schumacher as the most frequent finisher in Formula 1 history (238).
Pierre Gasly starts dead last after a change of power unit.
