FIA announce three post-race penalties at Dutch Grand Prix

The FIA confirmed post-race penalties for three F1 stars at the Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday.

The race stewards were kept busy throughout the action in Zandvoort, and it all started at the end of the first racing lap after a big crash for four-time world champion Max Verstappen.

They continued to work hard after the black and white checkered flag, too, with the FIA revealing a number of penalty verdicts after Lando Norris had taken Sunday's victory.

Carlos Sainz punished for crashing with teammate

Williams star Carlos Sainz was one of the names to be punished in Zandvoort, handed a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision with his teammate, Alex Albon.

Heading into turn one, Sainz locked up his tyres with Albon on the outside, with the stewards deeming that the Spaniard was wholly at fault for the incident.

"The driver of Car 55 defended an overtaking attempt by Car 23 on the inside into Turn 1, but locked up and caused a collision between both cars. The Stewards determine that the driver of Car 55 was wholly at fault and issue the standard penalty for such incidents," the FIA confirmed.

Sainz's penalty made no difference to his finish. He was 16th on the road and last of the running cars, with Albon behind him having suffered a DNF following the incident.

F1 stars penalised for yellow flag infringements

The other two penalties applied post-race were handed to Liam Lawson and Franco Colapinto for yellow flag infringements.

After reviewing the evidence, the race stewards determined that both Lawson and Colapinto failed to slow for a single yellow flag in turn three - a breach of article B1.8.4a of the FIA F1 regulations.

Both drivers received a 10-second penalty as a result, as well as one penalty point.

The verdicts for both were identical, with the FIA confirming: "The Stewards reviewed video, timing, telemetry and in-car video evidence. Car 43/Car 30 passed a single yellow flag without discernibly reducing speed although also receiving a visible warning on the dash. As the infringement was not considered dangerous or egregious, a penalty on the lower end of the available scale is imposed."

With the penalties applied, Lawson finished in seventh, while Colapinto was classified in 14th.

Other FIA penalty verdicts at Dutch GP

It was the second time that Colapinto was on the wrong side of the rules in Zandvoort, with the Alpine driver having also been handed a drive-through penalty and two penalty points early in the race, along with Arvid Lindblad, after overtaking under a double yellow.

Elsewhere in the Netherlands, Gabriel Bortoleto and Ollie Bearman were both given reprimands for leaving the pit lane when the light at the end of the pit lane was still red.

Those incidents occurred after the red flag for Max Verstappen's crash, but the race stewards' decision was confirmed post-race by the FIA.
