Lewis Hamilton's F1 title challenge faltered at the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday as Mercedes and Max Verstappen bounced back to top form.

Hamilton had closed to within 41 points of runaway leader Kimi Antonelli after that brilliant victory last time out in Barcelona, but he was unable to repeat the dose at the Red Bull Ring.

He could only finish fifth after starting third on the grid, while team-mate Charles Leclerc fared even worse - coming home in P8 after starting on the front row.

It was pole sitter George Russell who claimed victory, his first win since the opening race of the season in Australia back in March. He leapfrogs Hamilton into second in the standings, some 40 points behind Antonelli (who claimed third).

The other big story of the day was four-time world champion Max Verstappen roaring back to his best with a terrific second-place finish. Red Bull brought a raft of upgrades to their home race and the Dutchman was competitive throughout the weekend.
