Christian Krognes set the fastest time in qualifying for Race 2 (NLS5) of the ADAC 24h Nurburgring Qualifiers.

Driving the impressive #34 Aston Martin for Walkenhorst Motorsport, he completed a lap in 8:18.515. However, this hasn’t secured him pole as Top Qualifying is scheduled for later this morning.

The session was originally set to start at 08:15, but a 15-minute delay was necessary to thoroughly inspect the track. Heavy overnight rain had left the asphalt damp, preventing it from drying quickly. Once the competitive laps began, Winward Racing’s Mercedes-AMGs emerged at the front with impressive timings.

As the qualifying session neared its end, the track started to dry rapidly, reflected in the faster lap times with Mirko Bortolotti, driving Red Bull Team ABT’s Lamborghini, shaving off a full second from his previous time.

Shortly after, Max Verstappen inherited the No. 3 car from Lucas Auer and managed to beat it by an astonishing 10.212 seconds. Luca Stolz’s teammate, Maro Engel, came in just 0.594 seconds behind, while Bortolotti maintained third with another significant improvement. As the slick tires became the fastest option, lap times continued to fall.

In a thrilling final phase of the session, Christian Krognes held a narrow lead with his stellar 8:18.515. Dunlop-Porsche’s Alessio Picariello secured second place ahead of Christopher Mies in the Haupt-Mustang, with Jordan Pepper’s ROWE-BMW and Maximilian Paul’s Konrad-Lamborghini following closely.

The Winward AMG entries could not better their times in the closing minutes, causing Verstappen to slip back to 32nd place. This setback, however, is temporary.

A Top Qualifying shootout is on the horizon, where all SP9 teams - that is, all GT3 cars - will get two uninterrupted push laps free of traffic. For now, Verstappen’s P32 position is merely a prelude to the upcoming challenge.
