Haas confirm Imola upgrades will be its last
Haas confirm Imola upgrades will be its last
Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has confirmed no changes will be made to the VF-21 after the second race of the year where some "smaller parts" will be added to the car.
Steiner has made no secret of the fact Haas is prioritising the development of next year's car over the VF-21 with the team keen to benefit from the radical new aerodynamic regulations.
Despite this, Steiner revealed the team will have new parts arriving in time for the second race of the year, although these will be the final alterations made to the car.
"We had a late development which we will introduce in Imola but that is the last step of this car," he said.
“There will be some smaller parts for Imola [but] no big changes to be honest. So it is just some small parts which didn’t get ready in time but we knew that since a month [ago] that they would not get ready.
“It was not that they were late or anything. So we will have some parts for Imola and then we will not change the car anymore as I have said before."
Steiner added the team had raced the season-opener in Bahrain with exactly the same specification car it ended pre-season testing.
He said: "We didn’t change any parts or bring any upgrades from testing to here [Bahrain].
"During the test every day we had a few new parts on the car but we ran here like we finished the test on the Sunday.”
Last year, Haas halted development on its car at an early stage also but Steiner commented there are many differences between the car of one year ago and the current specification.
“Quite a bit [is different] because we had to change it to the new regulations so the floor has changed, there is a different front wing, the bodywork has changed – because there was some changes on the engine obviously," he added.
“There will be some quite big changes if you compare it with last year’s car.”
