Haas VF21 launch

Haas has officially launched the VF21 after completing a livery launch in February and a filming day in Bahrain on Thursday.

Haas finished the ninth of 10 teams in the constructors' championship last year and team principal Guenther Steiner has made clear on a number of occasions already that the VF21 will not be developed across the course of this season.

A large factor behind this decision, aside from last years poor performance and the large carryover of parts into the new season, is the budget cap - something entirely new to F1 that has come into force this year.

With radically changing aerodynamic regulations being introduced for 2022, Haas will spend all its budget in search of longer-term gains presented by the new era of the sport.

The 'forward looking' theme is also evident in the driver line-up at Haas - the team replacing Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen over the winter with a rookie pairing of Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher.

The controversy surrounding Mazepin has well documented after the Russian inappropriately touched a female passenger in a car, but Haas has once again found itself in the spotlight for its livery the features the Russian flag.

The use of the flag or national symbols or emblems from Russia are banned in FIA competition as part of a World Anti-Doping Agency [WADA] ruling and Haas is now the subject of a WADA investigation.
