Magnussen and Grosjean hit with 10-second penalties following pit wall instruction
Haas drivers Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean have been handed 10-second penalties after being instructed to pit on the formation lap of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The decision means Magnussen still scores his team's first point of the season as the Dane drops from ninth to 10th on the classification, while Grosjean falls from 15th to 16th.
As per article 27.1 of the Formula 1 sporting regulations, it states that "The driver must drive the car alone and unaided".
Race stewards decided the instruction given to both Magnussen and Grosjean to pit at the end of the formation lap contravened the rules.
On a wet track, Magnussen was due to start the race on a full-wet tyre, with Grosjean on the intermediate.
But at the end of the formation lap, both drivers pitted to switch to medium rubber and started from the pitlane.
The stewards' decision read: "Having considered the matter extensively, the stewards determined that the team instructed the driver to pit.
"The team could not prove that one of the exemptions made under paragraph A. 2. a) to g) of the Technical Directive 011-17 was applicable.
"Therefore, the stewards consider there is a breach of Art. 27.1 of the sporting regulations, that the driver must drive the car alone and unaided."
