VIDEO: NASCAR drivers brawl out the car!

NASCAR drivers Daniel Suarez and Michael McDowell came to blows during the first round of qualifying for the NASCAR Cup Series race at ISM Raceway after repeatedly getting tangled up on the track previously. Suarez accused his foe of lacking respect after a string of near-misses.

Both drivers saw their hot laps ruined in a chaotic qualifying session, with Suarez approaching his rival to straighten things out afterwards.

"[It's] just like a respect [thing]," Suarez said.

"Track position is very big in this race these days and you have to qualify well to have a good stall on pit road … you have to try to get out of the way if someone is coming with a hot lap. He just didn't."

McDowell gave a different take, before joking that the pair had been inspired by a trip to an ice hockey game earlier in the week.

"Just miscommunication on the track," said McDowell.

"We all waited until the end and we just had a lot of traffic. He was upset that we held him up on his good lap and then he tried to crash us and I didn't appreciate it."
