Vettel, Norris to take German GP penalties

Lando Norris will join Sebastian Vettel on the back row for the German Grand Prix after McLaren changed the electronics on his car ahead of the race.

Ferrari made similar changes to Vettel's car, also earning him a grid penalty, although it is immaterial as he will start last anyway, having failed to set a time in qualifying.

The damage is also not quite as severe for Norris, who could only manage 16th in qualifying on Saturday, something McLaren put down to a battery issue.

Norris lost pace to such an extent that he appeared to be blocking Alexander Albon at one point, despite being on a flying lap at the time.

Alfa Romeo have also made changes to Kimi Raikkonen's car under parc ferme rules, changing his internal combustion engine, turbocharger and MGU-K.

However, the Finn is set to keep hold of fifth place on the grid as the FIA say all changes are "in conformity" with the regulations.
