Pressure eased on Gasly after 'best weekend of the year'
Pierre Gasly said the British Grand Prix was 'the best weekend of the year' following a career-best equalling fourth place.
Gasly has played second fiddle to team-mate Max Verstappen in his Red Bull career, to the point where questions have been asked of his worthiness to have a seat at the notoriously cut-throat team.
Meetings between Red Bull’s Dr. Helmut Marko and the agent of former Red Bull driver Daniil Kvyat have only stoked the rumour mill.
These rumours look to have been silenced for now, however, following Gasly’s impressive fourth place, and he said meetings and changes made after a woeful Austrian Grand Prix made a 'good step forward'.
"It was by far the best weekend of the year so we can be pleased," Gasly said.
"There were quite a lot of things going on after Austria, meetings with the team, checking how we could improve the whole thing.
"We made a lot of changes and I'm pleased from the first session we could see the good step forward. A strong Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I just enjoyed the whole weekend. More so, we can be pleased with the step we made.
"There are so many things that made it possible and as I said it wasn't one big thing, it was many little things to sort out. Still not perfect, but we had a massive step forward in every area.
"We still need to find that extra final step to make it to the podium but the whole weekend was strong."
