Vettel and Hamilton back Monaco grid girls

Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel say it is fitting that grid girls will return at the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend. Although models have not been seen accompanying drivers to the grid in 2018, it is reported that they will be back in Monte Carlo.

Automobile Club de Monaco president Michel Boeri has previously said the allure of the Monte Carlo showpiece would not be the same without glamourous models present.

And it appears that the grid kids of 2018 - one of whom will be Charles Leclerc's cousin - will be joined by the tradition they replaced.

"I think women are most beautiful thing in world," Hamilton told the pre-race press conference.

"Monaco is a very elegant grand prix and I don't know how women feel about it, I've not spoken to women how they feel about the situation, so I can't really comment.

"I don't particularly feel any way about it. When you pull up to the grid and beautiful women are on the grid, that's the Monaco Grand Prix, that's a lovely thing.

"But we shouldn't be supporting or pushing these women in general to feel uncomfortable and if they are, they shouldn't do it. If they're comfortable doing it..."

Vettel has previously been a vocal critic of the change and he said that the episode was "too much of a fuss".

"The whole thing has been blown up, probably unnecessarily. I don't think any of the grid girls in the past were forced to do, I think they enjoyed what they were doing.

"I agree with Lewis. I like women, they look beautiful. If it was a guy I was just not interested, nothing against those guys, I just didn't care as much.

"Bottom line, it's too much of a fuss nowadays. All the women who took part as a grid girl in the past did it because they want to. I'm sure if you ask any of grid girls on Sunday if they are happy to stand there they will say yes. I don't think anyone forced them.

"It speaks for our times, there's a lot of noise for nothing."
