Wolff reveals "truth" behind F1 Las Vegas move

Toto Wolff has revealed the "truth" about how F1 fans feel about new tracks joining the calendar in place of historic venues.

Las Vegas was announced as F1's newest venue for 2023 ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, with classic races such as Monaco immediately on the back foot.

Focus has been placed on ensuring a balance is kept between travelling to new venues as F1's popularity grows whilst also maintaining the cultural heritage of the sport in Europe.

This task is overseen by the sport's CEO Stefano Domenicali, with the first of F1's new recruits two races away in Miami.

"I think Stefano is doing a brilliant job, between balancing out new, interesting venues, not only from a financial standpoint but also for tapping new audiences," said Mercedes team principal Wolff.

"I think being in the US now with a second and third is fantastic, especially in Miami and Las Vegas - doesn't get any better."

Explaining circuit choices aren't the focus for supporters, Wolff added: "The truth is that I don't think that most of the fans that are watching Formula 1 through TV or social media, they don't really mind where we're racing. It's my opinion. Baku isn't a traditional race, but it's fantastic content.

"So, racing in those iconic places is important for the fans, for the local fans and you can see it [in Australia] - great audiences.

"So, getting that balance right is not trivial. But Stefano, so far, has done that really well."
