Las Vegas Grand Prix warning for Monaco - Brown

McLaren CEO Zak Brown has warned the Las Vegas Grand Prix entering F1 next year could bring change to the Monaco Grand Prix.

F1 has scheduled the new event in Las Vegas for Thanksgiving weekend in the United States next November, taking the total number of races stateside to three.

The new event also means the calendar would stand at 24 races, nearing the cutoff as agreed to in the Concorde Agreement which would begin to put more historic races at risk.

Monaco has long failed to provide racing action as cars have evolved into bigger machines and asked of its security on the calendar, Brown told Reuters: “Monaco always stood for the most glamorous part of Formula 1.

"I think Miami, Singapore, Las Vegas are starting to add some pretty glamorous markets.

“I think Monaco needs to come up to the same commercial terms as other grands prix and also maybe needs to work with ways they can adapt their track because as our cars have become bigger, the racing has become more difficult.”

F1 "bigger than any one grand prix" - Brown

The loss of Monaco would be seen as a huge hit to the cultural history of the sport as new and emerging countries join the calendar.

Addressing how races should be determined, Brown explained: “You do need to take into consideration history but then I think you need to take into consideration how’s the show that it puts on.

“There is also an element, which shouldn’t drive our decisions but should be part of our decisions, of what’s the economic contribution to the sport.

“I’d much rather have Monaco than not... but just like the sport is bigger than any one driver or team, I think it’s bigger than any one grand prix.”
