Sainz claims old F1 cars "spiteful" ahead of "innovative" Ferrari launch

The F1-75 is Ferrari's first car under F1's new regulations`

Carlos Sainz has labelled Ferrari's new F1-75 "innovative to the max" and claimed F1's previous machinery was "spiteful".

The Scuderia will hope its brand new car will bring victories back to Maranello with the team having failed to stand on the top step of the podium since 2019.

F1 has overhauled the sport's regulations with a focus on changing the aerodynamic structures of the cars, in theory allowing for closer, more exciting racing.

Ferrari will launch its new challenger on February 17 and speaking to Corriere Della Sera, Sainz said it will be "different from the machines seen in recent years. Innovative to the max."

The Spaniard added: "Until last year we drove the best cars in the history of F1, well-balanced but spiteful, if you lost control for an instant, you'd crash.

"This Ferrari seems even more responsive to me, the suspension is stiffer, we'll have to get used to handling it."

"If it's easy to drive, everything emerges faster, the lap times almost come by themselves. Then you have to compare the data with the others. I don't think the first test in Barcelona will be enough, but in Bahrain, we'll have some reliable information."

Pre-season testing gets underway in Spain on February 23 with the first race taking place in Bahrain on March 20.
