Zandvoort prepares for Verstappen homecoming with unusual speed limit

Zandvoort has stepped up its preparations for the Dutch Grand Prix by changing speed limit signs from 30kph to 33 in honour of home hero Max Verstappen.

Following this weekend's Belgian GP, the circuit stages the first Dutch race since 1985 on September 3-5.

Verstappen currently trails championship leader Lewis Hamilton by eight points after the Dutchman scored just five from the last two weekends.

Anticipation for the race is high, especially as F1 is returning to the Netherlands after a delay of more than 12 months due to the pandemic.

Marking the local importance of the weekend, chequered flag bunting is also being hung around Zandvoort in addition to the speed limit signs being changed.

The return of the race on the calendar will be witnessed by up to 70,000 fans a day after restrictions limited the venue to running at two-thirds capacity.
