Alonso makes history at Le Mans

Alonso won the race twice with Toyota before returning to F1

Fernando Alonso has made history by becoming the first driver to take a lap around the Circuit de la Sarthe at Le Mans in F1 machinery.

The Spaniard drove an Alpine during a parade for the French manufacturer ahead of the main race.

Alonso spent a season in the World Endurance Championship during the 'Super Season' which took in two Le Mans 24 Hour events, winning the race on both occasions and taking the championship with Toyota.

Alpine is aiming to cause an upset in the Hypercar class by beating Toyota and stopping the Japanese manufacturer from making it four wins in a row.
