Red Bull - Tost "convinced big manufacturer" will join engine effort
AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost is "convinced a big manufacturer" will join Red Bull's engine project in the future.
Red Bull's engine supplier Honda will leave F1 at the end of the current season with the Milton Keynes-based team taking over the IP of the power units to create its own powertrain department.
AlphaTauri will take the same units as the parent team and speaking to GPFans Global, Tost said: "I hope it's a benefit because it's coming from the same company because Red Bull is also the owner of Scuderia AlphaTauri.
"I must say that Red Bull Technology, with Dr. Marko and [Christian] Horner are doing a fantastic job because the way they are going with this project is the absolutely right way to become independent.
"Sooner or later, I'm convinced a big manufacturer will come in and bring some money or whatever, but to build up the infrastructure, to build up the know-how is the first and most important step for this."
Asked if AlphaTauri would have any say in the development of the power units, Tost replied: "No, I don't have any input on this.
"This is everything on the side of Red Bull Technology and the rest we will see in the future but I'm convinced that they will provide us with a very competitive engine."
