Hamilton slates "unacceptable, cowardly and misguiding" Hungarian anti-LGBTQ+ laws
Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton has branded legislation limiting LGBTQ+ education to young people in Hungary as "cowardly and misguiding".
Hamilton has given his backing to the Hungarian LGBTQ+ community ahead of a referendum on legislation passed in June this year that limits or bans young people from being exposed to homosexual content.
On social media, Hamilton wrote: "To all in this beautiful country Hungary.
"Ahead of the Grand Prix this weekend, I want to share my support for those affected by the government's anti-LGBTQ+ law.
"It is unacceptable, cowardly and misguiding for those in power [to] suggest such a law.
"Everyone deserves to have the freedom to be themselves, no matter who they love or how they identify.
"I urge the people of Hungary to vote in the upcoming referendum to protect the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, they need our support more than ever.
"Please show love for those around you because love will always win."
Hamilton has been outspoken on issues of discrimination over the past 18 months, with his eponymous commission recently publishing its report on how to improve diversity in motorsport.
Earlier this week, Hamilton launched a new charitable foundation, Mission 44, created to support, champion and empower young people from under-represented groups in the UK, with a personal pledge of £20million.
