Perez backs Aston Martin F1 title ambitions

Sergio Perez has backed Lawrence Stroll to make a success of his Formula 1 title-winning ambitions with Aston Martin.

Perez was dropped at the end of last year by Stroll's team, then Racing Point, after the billionaire entrepreneur hired Sebastian Vettel to compete alongside son Lance.

Stroll declared his desire to turn Aston Martin into a championship-winning outfit within six years, a feat Perez is confident can be achieved.

“In five years a lot of things can happen for sure, and I think Lawrence and his team are aware that things in Formula 1, to be successful, take a long time," said Perez.

"They have very good people from Andrew [Green], from Otmar [Szafnauer]…all the senior members, all the engineers there. They have very strong people."

In recent weeks, Stroll has added a number of senior personnel to the team's ranks and continuing this growth is something Perez believes to be vital to future success.

"The question will be how fast they are able to grow, how fast they are able to integrate their whole team," he added.

"But certainly they have very good people and I really hope that they stick together for many years because that team is strong and historically has been very strong due to the people and the unity of the team members.”
