Aston Martin reveal F1 title-winning timescale

Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll has set what he considers to be a "realistic" target for his team to become future F1 champions.

Highly ambitious billionaire Stroll is leaving no stone unturned in his quest to upset the hierarchy and deliver added kudos to the famous brand.

A new factory and wind tunnel, being built at a cost of £150million, are due to open by the middle of 2023, while the workforce is also in the process of being significantly strengthened from its current level of 500 up to 800.

Given the overall level of investment, Stroll has made it clear what he wants in return.

"As for the plans for the future going forward, like my track record, pretty much as with every other business I own, it is to win," asserted Stroll.

"In this case, winning in Formula 1 means obviously world championships, and ultimately that's what we are striving for, what I am striving for.

"Of course, we all know that success in Formula 1 - or any other business for that matter - doesn't come overnight. It takes years to put the right people, the right tools, the right processes in place.

"But we are building and investing in our team, with the ambition of moving up the grid year by year, and our ultimate ambition is to win world championships."

As to the timescale, Stroll added: "It’s four, five, six years.

"We’re currently in a good place. We share Mercedes’ wind tunnel, as you all know, so we’re in one of the best wind tunnels. It’s not as good as having your own, but it’s not like we’re sacrificing by being in a poor wind tunnel.

"Facilities-wise, we’ve definitely outgrown our facilities. We’re putting up a lot of temporary facilities around our site in order to accommodate all these new hires. I think we’ll be in the new place, 18 months, 20 months, the end of next year.

"We’re not really compromising on anything. Formula 1, like any other business, I don’t think you could realistically plan on winning before four or five years. I think that’s realistically what it takes."
