Norris "shaken" but unharmed in EURO 2020 incident

McLaren has confirmed driver Lando Norris was unhurt in an incident that took place at Wembley Stadium after the conclusion of the Euro 2020 final between Italy and England.

After attending the Goodwood Festival of Speed and driving Ayrton Senna's McLaren MP4/5B up the famous hill, Norris travelled to London to witness the England men's team in its first major tournament final since winning the World Cup in 1966.

Following the final whistle, Norris posted an image of himself in the terraces with the caption "Kinda sad, but ❤️ you England."

In the image, Norris is seen wearing a watch with a blue strap. McLaren revealed on Monday evening this watch, which has a reported value of £40,000, to have been "taken" in an incident that occurred at Wembley.

A statement from the team read: "McLaren Racing can confirm that Lando Norris was involved in an incident, after the Euro 2020 final match at Wembley, during which the watch he was wearing was taken.

"Thankfully, Lando was unharmed but he is understandably shaken. The team is supporting Lando and we are sure that racing fans will join us in wishing him all the best for the British Grand Prix this weekend.

"As this is now a police matter we cannot comment further."

EURO 2020 final tarnished by incidents of racism

England's loss in the Wembley final made headlines on Monday not for the result, but for the vile abuse directed at a number of players overnight.

Instances of racism have been reported with penalty takers Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka the prime targets.

Lewis Hamilton earlier commented: "The racial abuse on social media towards our players after yesterday's game is unacceptable.

"This sort of ignorance has to be stopped. Tolerance and respect for players of colour should not be conditional. Our humanity should not be conditional.

"Please call out those you see posting hatred online. Challenge them to see the humanity in everyone regardless of colour.
