F1 penalty points: Alonso closes on Verstappen with only Ferrari scoreless

Max Verstappen remains top of the F1 penalty points table after the Miami Grand Prix but Fernando Alonso has closed the gap.

Red Bull driver and Miami winner Verstappen kept his nose clean for the second successive race weekend but his seven-point haul is yet to be matched by any other driver.

But Alonso is closing in on the Dutchman after adding an additional three points to his licence for two separate incidents - causing a collision with Pierre Gasly and latterly for gaining a lasting advantage by running off the track.

The Spaniard also received a five-second penalty for each violation.

Daniel Ricciardo and Kevin Magnussen were also sanctioned by the stewards.

Magnussen's points mean Ferrari is now the only team where both drivers have clean records across the last 12 months.

Alongside time penalties, driving infringements also carry penalty points to ensure driving standards are maintained.

These points expire after 12 months have elapsed but will result in a race ban should 12 points be accrued during this period.

GPFans has compiled a list of the points currently accrued by drivers and when they will expire. This article will be updated throughout the year.
