Raikkonen punished with 20-second penalty for Vettel clash

Raikkonen, Alfa Romeo

Kimi Raikkonen has been penalised for his final lap incident with Sebastian Vettel at the Austrian Grand Prix.

The Alfa Romeo driver collided with former Ferrari team-mate Vettel on the run into turn six as they concertinaed behind George Russell's Williams in the battle for 11th at the Red Bull Ring, sending both Raikkonen and Vettel spearing into the gravel trap.

Raikkonen was awarded a post-race drive-through penalty - converted to a 20-second time penalty.

A stewards' report read: "Exiting turn five, Raikkonen closed the door on Vettel, which caused a collision taking both cars off the track."

The resultant penalty doesn't affect the race result, with Haas driver Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin almost a minute behind the Finn, and with Vettel failing to complete the race through the damage sustained.

Raikkonen has also had two penalty points added to his licence and now has six in total for the past 12-month period.
