Red Bull threaten counter wing protest against Mercedes
Dr Helmut Marko has indicated Red Bull could counter-protest Mercedes' front wing should the German manufacturer complain about his team's rear wing in Baku.
Red Bull advisor Marko has reiterated the RB16B is compliant with F1's technical regulations and has suggested Mercedes must look at its own components for legality.
The championship rivals are at the centre of the flexi-wing debate that will see the introduction of stricter load testing on the rear wings to ensure all components are compliant from the French Grand Prix onwards.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has warned legal action may be taken because of the delay, with a hefty advantage expected from the wings at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
"The FIA has decided that the rules for testing and, above all, for torsion resistance will be changed. That applies from Paul Ricard onwards," Marko told Formel1.de.
"[That is] a very clear statement and regulation. If Mr Wolff thinks that it is too late for him...in my opinion, it is still the FIA that determines the procedure.
"Our car, like many other cars, was approved by the FIA and classified as compliant with the rules."
On Wolff's intention to appeal in Baku, Marko added: "He is free to do so.
"But I think he should also look at his front wing because ServusTV and Sky had a recording where you could see how drastically this front wing approaches the ground."
As to whether Red Bull could protest Mercedes, Marko replied: "Right."
