Red Bull struggles for Perez will soon be "bad memories"
Red Bull struggles for Perez will soon be "bad memories"
Sergio Perez believes his early struggles at Red Bull will just be "bad memories" rather than recurring problems over the next few races.
The Mexican has shown glimpses of his talent since making the switch from Racing Point over the winter but errors have left him 48 points adrift of team-mate Max Verstappen in the drivers' standings after just four races.
Asked if he was concerned the next two races would increase his acclimatisation period with Red Bull due to the street track layouts in Monaco and Baku, Perez replied: "Yeah but I thought the same of Imola and I was right there on the pace.
"I found Barcelona a bit harder than other places with the car. I am not concerned, I think I will be fine in a couple of races' time and these bad days will just be bad memories."
Red Bull has failed to find a steady second driver to partner Verstappen in a charge to dethrone Mercedes at the top of F1, drafting in Perez for his consistency during his time at Racing Point and Force India.
Despite this, Perez failed to reach Q3 in Bahrain before outqualifying Verstappen at Imola. Fourth at Portimão in qualifying was followed up by a poor result in Barcelona.
Asked where his consistency had gone, Perez said: "Well, I think not knowing the car 100 per cent as I used to.
"We have been to very different tracks so very difficult to get into a rhythm with the limited track time we have had.
"You can see there is clearly some good potential so I am not worried at all. We have to focus on the next race and keep learning."
