Norris and Sainz mark World Mental Health Day with self-designed helmets

A prize draw will raise money for mental health charity partner Mind

McLaren is to raise money for mental health partner Mind by raffling one-off helmets designed by drivers Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz.

Ahead of the current season McLaren joined forces with Mind and on Saturday, October 10, World Mental Health Day, the team revealed special helmets, personally designed by Norris and Sainz that will be raffled to raise money for the charity.

The two drivers previously featured in a YouTube video painting initial designs and the prize draw for these raised over £70,000 for Mind.

As helmets must be homologated, the designs have now been professionally applied for the weekend and will be subject to a new prize draw, details of which will be announced at the end of November.

“This weekend is important for our whole team as we mark World Mental Health Day and raise awareness of the work of our charity partner Mind in fighting the mental health emergency," said McLaren managing director of sales and marketing, Mark Waller.

"The coronavirus pandemic continues to have a huge impact on mental health for millions around the world. Advocacy of better mental health is something we critically value at McLaren and continuously strive to educate ourselves about, to provide the necessary support to our people.

“We are proud to have partnered with Mind as our chosen charity in support of the #WeRaceAsOne campaign, and the sum raised so far is an incredible effort, from which Mind will be able to help more people experiencing a mental health problem."

The Mind logo has featured on the MCL35 across the season but, for the weekend at the Nürburgring, further messaging will be visible on the halo.

Since partnering, over £190,000 has been raised for Mind.

To raise further money for the charity, McLaren has released special black #WeRaceAsOne shirts that also feature the unique helmet designs with 100 per cent of the profits going directly to Mind.
