Vettel confident he will see out 2020 season at Ferrari despite early-season struggles
Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel is confident he will not be shown the door early at the Scuderia despite having a difficult start to the 2020 season.
Before the season had even started, it was announced Vettel would be replaced by Carlos Sainz Jr. for 2021 as the German's expiring deal would not be extended.
With Ferrari failing to deliver a competitive package so far in 2020, Vettel has struggled massively in the opening act of the season, only collecting 10 points in the first five grands prix as he sits 13th in the drivers' standings. His team-mate Charles Leclerc has accrued 45 points and stood on the podium twice at the other side of the Ferrari garage.
Ahead of this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, Vettel admitted he currently is not at his best mentally when asked about his frustration levels.
"I've been in a happier place," the 33-year-old said.
"I love fighting at the front, winning and feeling you can achieve great results. It will be difficult this year with the package that we have."
Vettel's spin at the start of the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix was the latest evidence of how bad the four-time champion's current form is, as he recovered to finish 12th at Silverstone following a P10 finish a week earlier at the British Grand Prix.
Although things seemingly cannot get much worse for Vettel, he is still confident about being able to finish the season at Ferrari and not being axed before the end of the season.
"I don't think so," he replied when asked about his concerns of being let go early.
"We haven't even considered or spoken about it. So I guess its not just a question for myself. I know what I'm aware of, I know the job that I can do.
"At the moment it's not been the cleanest run. I'm sure if things calm down and I get a decent chance then I will use it."
Vettel refused to comment when asked whether Ferrari is potentially favouring Leclerc within the team, adding "I'm just trying to do my job".
