Hamilton performance "like seeing a unicorn" - Wolff

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff hailed Lewis Hamilton's Styrian Grand Prix performance as "like seeing a unicorn".

Hamilton was a comfortable winner of the Red Bull Ring race following a stunning lap in the wet in qualifying landed him pole, while Valtteri Bottas passed Max Verstappen in the closing stages to finish behind his team-mate for a one-two.

Given the gearbox problems which disrupted their race last week, Wolff couldn't have been happier with the outcome, particularly the display of Hamilton, telling Sky Sports F1: "I think we can be very satisfied with this weekend. A tremendous job from everybody and also to getting our worries from last week under control.

"I think everything has been said about Lewis' talent and abilities. Sometimes he needs - and all of us - needs weekends like the last one where you just work very hard to recover and when he is in that space, he is just unbeatable.

"I have never seen anything like this in the top class of motor racing. It is like seeing a unicorn. That was exceptional."

Wolff added that the team were also looking forward to continuing their good form in final leg of the season-opening triple-header next weekend at the Hungaroring.

He added: "We love it. We were starved of motor racing. We just all love the stopwatch and the brutal honesty of it.

"Hungary is a great track, totally different to what we have in Spielberg so it will be really interesting to benchmark ourselves there."
