Formula 1 is back! The 2020 season gets underway with the Austrian Grand Prix on July 5.

On Sunday, 217 days after the chequered flag fell in Abu Dhabi, the lights will go out at the Red Bull Ring to signal the long-awaited start to a heavily disrupted campaign.

Ahead of the original season opener in Australia, an event cancelled ahead of first practice on March 13 after a member of the McLaren team tested positive for Covid-19, Lewis Hamilton had dominated the headlines.

At the time speculation had linked Hamilton, who could equal Michael Schumacher's record haul of seven world titles, with a move to Ferrari for 2021.

With all that has happened since such a switch is no longer on the table, meaning Hamilton looks set to remain with Mercedes.

Another talking point ahead of the Australian event were the rumoured protests against the Mercedes DAS [Dual Axis Steering] system and the Racing Point RP20.

It is not known how many teams - if any at all - had planned to go lodge an objection, but many had openly voiced concerns over both the Mercedes system and the Racing Point design, with the latter openly stating its RP20 was "inspired" by the 2019 Mercedes.
