AlphaTauri to run 2020 car at Imola after successful fire-up
AlphaTauri will become only the second Formula 1 team to run a 2020 car since pre-season testing when it conducts a filming day at Imola on Wednesday.
So far, Mercedes, Renault and Ferrari have all elected to complete unlimited mileage in 2018 cars in a bid to get their drivers up to speed and the race teams accustomed to the new protocols in place when attending grands prix.
Ferrari hit the track at Mugello on Tuesday [June 23] in its SF71-H, with Sebastian Vettel at the wheel in the morning and Charles Leclerc taking over in the afternoon.
The AT01 will run at Imola, venue of the San Marino Grand Prix, and with the circuit located just nine miles away from the team's headquarters in Faenza.
As per the regulations for a filming day, as conducted by Racing Point last Wednesday [June 17] when Lance Stroll driving the RP20, the team will be restricted to running for no more than 100km and on Pirelli demonstration tyres.
AlphaTauri fired up the Honda power unit on Tuesday [June 23] in preparation, with drivers Daniil Kvyat and Pierre Gasly having seat fits last Friday.
