Binotto: 'Women should be part of the Ferrari Academy'
Ferrari are keeping a lookout for the best female driving talent in motorsport
Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto targets the addition of female drivers to the Ferrari Academy as the W Series shines a light on a largely untapped talent pool.
Williams have showcased Susie Wolff, Alfa Romeo Tatiana Calderon and Formula One teams have female drivers within their ranks, but Ferrari are the first to come out and openly say that they are looking specifically for a female driving talent to join their academy.
“We need to look at the future generation of talent for Ferrari,” Binotto is quoted as saying on Formula1.com. “The Academy [is also looking] for women in the future. Women should be part of the Ferrari Academy. That's something on which we are working right now to make sure that it may happen very soon.
“I think it's showing… Ferrari is always investing to make sure we can be stronger and stronger in the medium [and] long-term view.”
W Series champion Jamie Chadwick is currently employed by Williams as a development driver alongside Dan Ticktum while championship runner up Beitske Visser is a factory BMW driver.
With the W Series racing alongside Formula One in the United States and Mexico in 2020, there may well be a few deals to be done across the two weekends.
