Perez to face Singapore GP grid penalty

Perez to face Singapore GP grid penalty

Matthew Scott

Sergio Perez will take a five-place grid penalty at the Singapore Grand Prix after Racing Point were forced to change the Mexican's gearbox ahead of qualifying.

Perez tagged the wall at Turn 21 with his right-rear tyre during FP3 at the Marina Bay circuit.

The incident brought out red flags as debris had to be cleared away, but had greater consequences for Perez.

Perez had scored points in every edition of the Singapore GP that he had contested until a fraught race last year, which saw him collide with team-mate Esteban Ocon on lap one and later Sergey Sirotkin.
