Red Bull 'not looking' to replace Gasly...yet

Red Bull don’t have any plans to replace Pierre Gasly at the moment, but the Frenchman must improve his performances in the second half of the season or risk being put under serious pressure, according to Christian Horner.

Gasly finished sixth in the Hungarian Grand Prix at the weekend, behind McLaren’s Carlos Sainz, but it presented yet another race when he has been easily outperformed by team-mate Max Verstappen, who fought with Lewis Hamilton for the win.

Red Bull remain supportive of his troubles, but need to see better results after the summer break if they are to give him assurances of his seat for 2020.

"He's got the second half of the year to really get it together because then they'll be a lot of pressure on what we do for next year," Horner explained to Sky Sports.

"But we're not looking at replacing him or switching drivers around, it's really in his court now to get it together and build on some of the promise we have seen flashes of. He just needs to put it together more consistently.

"All we can do is provide him with the best car we can and provide him with the best support we can and try to work with him to eliminate some of the mistakes."

Horner regrets that Red Bull were not able to gain any ground on Ferrari in the constructors’ championship.

"Obviously not having two cars running at the front does hurt us," the team principal continued.

"Particularly in the constructors' championship where we scored the same amount of points as Ferrari today on a track where we should have taken more out of them."
