F1 fans react to Sky's new deal for F1 package
This week, Sky released their new advert for the upcoming Formula 1 season, and with it an announcement that they would be making subsequent coverage of the sport available to viewers for £10 a month. How did the F1 fans react to the news of the cheaper deal?
Sky's exclusive #F1 deal until 2024 will only succeed in taking the sport further away from the masses, and will cause large amounts of damage to both the existing and future fan base in this country. But sure, they produced a nice advert, so all is forgotten... — Luke Carlile-Stanton (@CarlileStanton) 22 February 2019
I was born in the early '90s. I became obsessed (for want of a better term...) with #F1 as a result of discovering it on FTA TV, first on the BBC, but mainly on ITV. What chance do today's generation of kids have of developing a similar love as a result of the Sky deal? None. https://t.co/q6U45OtE5v — Luke Carlile-Stanton (@CarlileStanton) 22 February 2019
Come on. Its only a tenner. We’ll put on a great show for that. OK, a fiver a race. Can’t say fairer than that. Blimey, I’ll be paying you to watch soon! ?????????????????? ???? #f1 #SkySportsF1 https://t.co/Wv8Eao6o79 — Damon Hill (@HillF1) 23 February 2019
@CroftyF1 I cannot find anywhere you can get f1 for £10 a month as you already have to have the sky sports package which I don’t want minimum cost is £23 a month and even more if you want it in hd. Come on @SkySportsF1 give the f1 fans a real deal! Some of us only watch f1.???? https://t.co/ZaJI4zOD4i — Tony Christmas (@1onetone) 22 February 2019
There are still highlights on C4. It's a good deal all things considered. Sky push towards 1m live F1 viewers. It's really not as bad as it seems. — Jordan (@F1_Jordan) 18 February 2019
If you're angry about the 2019 #F1 broadcast rights, don't blame Channel 4, don't blame Liberty, blame Bernie Ecclestone for making the exclusive deals with Sky years ago. The fact #C4F1 have any coverage at all next year is an improvement on what was going to happen. — Dani_ (@DaniKelly84) 15 September 2018
???????????????? £7.99 on f1 channel. Just can’t get in uk due to sky’s deal . Which doesn’t even get 1/2 million viewers. Sky will kill the sport . — PCordon (@pjcf1fan) 23 February 2019
As I see many others saying, the problem is for us in the UK that want to watch @F1, we're forced to pay for a load of other channels we don't want, before we can get to pay for what we do want. The sooner F1 ends the Sky deal and allows us to pay for their stream, the better! — TeamLH LH44 (@srbpower) 22 February 2019
