Haas sponsor Rich Energy spirals into civil war
OK, this is getting crazy now.
The growing civil war at Rich Energy deepened on Thursday evening as the drinks company's CEO William Storey blasted a statement which had denied an earlier claim that they would cancel their sponsorship of Haas F1.
Rich Energy's eye-catching time in Formula 1 has launched into an astonishing gear ahead of the British Grand Prix, with Storey seemingly at serious odds with his fellow shareholders.
On Wednesday the company's Twitter account released a statement, claiming that "poor performance" had led to them terminating their sponsorship of Haas.
However, Haas boss Guether Steiner confirmed on Thursday that Rich Energy's branding would remain at the team at Silverstone and a subsequent company statement labelled the earlier tweet as the actions of a "rogue individual" that shareholders were looking to remove from an executive position.
It would appear that individual is Storey after an astonishing broadside, once again sent through Rich Energy's Twitter account, against the company.
It quoted Storey: "The ludicrous statement by minority shareholders cosy with @redbull & @WhyteBikes is risible. Their attempted palace coup has failed. I control all of the assets of @rich_energy & have support of all key stakeholders."
