Mercedes continued their fine form at the French Grand Prix, taking a second one-two finish from Friday practice in FP2. Valtteri Bottas topped Lewis Hamilton, while the championship leader had to face a post-session trip to face the stewards for a potentially unsafe return to the track.
Hamilton wiped out a bollard after getting sideways and forced Max Verstappen to take evasive action when he got back onto the track.
The moment came bizarrely as the F1 paddock awaited news of Ferrari's hearing with the FIA over Sebastian Vettel's penalty in the Canadian GP for a remarkably similar incident.
Hamilton was cost a true flying lap as a result, as was Verstappen, although Bottas' pace suggests Mercedes have plenty in hand this weekend.
