Toro Rosso miss out on Albon?
Alexander Albon's rumoured switch to Toro Rosso was thrown into doubt after he was named in Nissan's confirmed line-up for the 2018-19 Formula E season. It had been recently claimed that Toro Rosso would confirm Albon as Daniil Kvyat's 2019 partner in Abu Dhabi.
Brendon Hartley has been widely expected to lose his race seat after an underwhelming campaign in which he has been largely outperformed by the Red Bull-bound Pierre Gasly.
The New Zealander has scored in Azerbaijan, Germany and the USA this season, but only Sergey Sirotkinhas fewer points to his name.
With Kvyat filling Gasly's seat in his third Toro Rosso stint, the likes of Pascal Wehrlein, Esteban Ocon, Mick Schumacher and many more were linked to the second seat in the team as confidence in Hartley failed to materialise.
Albon's potential move has been laced in controversy – the British-Thai driver was reported to have reneged on a deal with Nissan in order to join Toro Rosso, infuriating the Japanese manufacturer, who were reportedly seeking hefty compensation from Red Bull.
However, with Albon now confirmed on FE's entry list, it is unclear of an agreement has been met – potentially forcing Red Bull to look elsewhere.
The 22-year-old is second in the F2 standings with a round to race, sat between 2019 F1 drivers George Russell and Lando Norris.
He was previously a member of Red Bull's junior academy, but was dropped after just one year following a below-par showing in Formula Renault.
