Alonso laughs off Red Bull snub
Fernando Alonso laughed off suggestions from Christian Horner that the "chaos" he would bring to Red Bull had put the team off considering him to replace Daniel Ricciardo. Although Alonso did not offer a clue on where his 2019 destination does lie, it appears a snub from Milton Keynes does not concern him.
Red Bull are thought to be choosing between Carlos Sainz Jr and Pierre Gasly as Max Verstappen's next team-mate, but suggestions of the fiery Dutchman partnering two-time champion Alonso had got some fans excited.
Horner poured cold water on those suggestions, however, telling F1's 'Beyond the Grid' podcast: "I've got huge respect for Fernando, he's a great driver, a fantastic driver.
"But I think it'd be very difficult to see. He's tended to cause a bit of chaos wherever he's gone.
"I'm not sure it would be the healthiest thing for Fernando to join the team."
When the quotes became apparent to Alonso, he responded in turn on his official Twitter account.
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????!!! definitely one of the best things ever!!! Summer hit !!????????????????????????????. #fromlastweekNothanks https://t.co/IaFD3tIMh4 — Fernando Alonso (@alo_oficial) August 9, 2018
Alonso could well be on the move from F1 in 2019, with a potential switch to IndyCar giving him the chance to secure the 'Triple Crown' with a victory at the Indianapolis 500.
McLaren may enter a team in the American series next year to help Alonso, but their failing F1 project reportedly holds less interest for the Spaniard.
