Max Verstappen returns to the Nurburgring for the 24h qualifiers

F1 champion Max Verstappen returned to the Nurburgring on Saturday for the 24h qualifiers, but it was disappointing first session for the Dutchman.

The Verstappen Racing team, comprised of the four-time F1 world champion himself and team-mate Lucas Auer, only managed to qualify sixth for the NLS4 race later in the day, setting a time of 08:13.012 in their Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Things would get even worse for the Dutchman after the session had concluded, with the team placed under investigation for Auer making contact with a Porsche Cayman. They would eventually be handed a three-place grid penalty for the race later on Saturday (4:30pm UK).

The BMW M4 GT3 EVO No. 23 car took pole position for Saturday evening's race, with Anzal Zsigo setting the fastest time of the session of a 08:09.488. They were followed by the No.11 Mercedes-AMG GT3 team in second, with Kenneth Heyer setting their best time, and the No.47 Mercedes-AMG GT3 team in third, with their best time set by Jesse Krohn.
