All the times from Japanese Grand Prix practice

Oscar Piastri has rebounded from one of the most disastrous possible starts to the F1 season, topping the timing boards in FP2 at the Japanese Grand Prix.

McLaren look to have taken a step forward since their double DNS debacle in Shanghai, with both of their cars running within two tenths of George Russell in FP1 and Piastri going fastest outright later in the day – although team-mate Lando Norris was delayed coming out for FP2 due to a hydraulic issue.

Arvid Lindblad suffered even worse though and was unable to complete a single timed lap in the hour-long session.

There was a little drama in the day's earlier session, with Alex Albon driving straight into the side of Sergio Perez's Cadillac at the final chicane, the Mexican driver cutting right across the Williams after missing him in his faulty virtual mirror.

One driver got to watch the first session from the pit wall though, with Fernando Alonso swapping out for the session to allow Jak Crawford to step into the bone-shaking Aston Martin thrill ride, which only managed 11 laps with the American at the wheel during FP1.
