Williams to launch FW43B in 3D augmented reality

Williams Racing has announced it will use augmented reality to launch its 2021 Formula 1 challenger on Friday.

Fans will be able to download the ‘Williams Racing AR Launch 2021’ app onto their smartphones in order to have access to the futuristic launch, which will allow the FW43B to be projected as a full-scale, 3D model into their homes.

F1 teams have had to be innovative with their car launches this year due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, with Mercedes hosting a simple launch Q&A from its Brackley factory, whilst Alpine opted for a virtual, green-screen laden reveal.

The launch takes place on Friday [March 5] at 14:00 GMT, with the team hoping the FW43B will propel George Russell and Nicholas Latifi back into the midfield battle after a pointless year for the team in 2020.
