Hamilton admits "I wasn't great" after missing out on Silverstone pole

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton confessed he "wasn't that great" after being pipped to pole position by Valtteri Bottas at the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.

Hamilton looked on course to qualify fastest before team-mate Bottas snatched pole away by 0.063 seconds with his final qualifying effort of qualifying.

Speaking directly after the session, the championship leader admitted his team-mate was fully deserving of pole.

"I wasn't that great," said Hamilton. "Valtteri did a good job and deserved pole. For me, it wasn't a perfect last lap."

Hamilton survived a last lap puncture to take victory at the British Grand Prix one week ago, while Bottas and Sainz also suffered failures.

Pirelli has brought compounds that are a step softer to the second Silverstone weekend and Hamilton believes this will result in two-stop strategies across the board.

"I don't think many people will be managing with a softer," he continued.

"I was already managing last weekend and the tyre didn't make it to the end so highly unlikely I think many people will do a one-stop tomorrow."
