World Motor Sport Council legitimises FIA over Ferrari investigation
FIA President Jean Todt has received backing from the World Motor Sport Council with regards to how the FIA conducted the investigation into the legality of Ferrari’s 2019 power unit, which has been questioned by several teams including Mercedes and Red Bull.
Last year Ferrari displayed extreme speed on straights which led many to wonder where the new pace was coming from.
An investigation was subsequently launched, but the FIA did not take anything further after revealing that they had came to a “settlement” with Ferrari which would end the matter.
This did not satisfy the other F1 teams, however, with seven of them subsequently signing a letter questioning the FIA’s role in that outcome, with a released statement saying:

“An international sporting regulator has the responsibility to act with the highest standards of governance, integrity and transparency.”
However, the WMSC have subsequently claimed that they were satisfied with the protocol which was followed by the FIA in the investigation.
“The Council expressed unanimous support for the FIA President and the FIA Technical Department in regard to the overall management of the case, and strongly opposed any comments that undermine the reputation and image of the FIA and the Formula One World Championship,” a statement read.
Under the current guidelines of investigation rulings, the FIA legally do not need to disclose any aspects of the “settlement” which was reached with Ferrari, but that is unlikely to halt the quest for answers from the other constructor teams.
