Vettel: Changes to F1 qualifying 'complete bullsh*t'
Sebastian Vettel has branded the idea to bring reverse-grid races to Formula 1 as "complete bullshit".
With Liberty Media looking to shake up the current make-up of a race weekend, the idea of introducing qualifying races at a selection of events in 2020 has been raised.
The grid would be set by reversing the order of the drivers' championship, with the result then setting the grid for the grand prix.
Vettel is not a fan of the idea to say the least, saying that the gimmick would not solve the fundamental issues that Liberty are looking to address.
"I think it is complete bullshit, to be honest," he said.
"I think we know that if we want to improve things it is very clear we need to string the field more together, we need to have better racing. It is just a plaster.
"I don't know which genius came up with it, but it is not the solution. It is completely the wrong approach."
Lewis Hamilton was similarly unimpressed about the proposal.
"I don't really know what to say. The people that proposed that don't really know what they are talking about."
Singapore pole-sitter Charles Leclerc was also sceptical about the potential move.
He said: "I would not be happy. I am a lot happier to start first tomorrow but I don't think it is the solution for Formula 1.
"The best should win and start in the best place. And not reverse that order. I don't think it is the solution."
Max Verstappen echoed Vettel's sentiment to the letter.
"I think it's nonsense," he said. "I don't see the point. Everybody should have a fair chance of doing the best qualifying they can and that's where you deserve to start.
"I also don't like reverse grid races. I think it's all bullshit."
